Women’s Technology Cluster will be hosting the First Annual WTC Angel Investor Colloquium on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 in San Francisco, CA. The program is designed to help individuals, particularly women, to gain the financial literacy required to become an angel equity investor.
Allicense 2006 will be held on May 2-3, 2006 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, CA. The 10th anniversary forum will attempt to re-examine the many aspects of the highly beneficial interdependence between research centers, biotechnology start-ups, integrated biopharmaceutical firms and established pharmaceutical companies. Confirmed speakers include Richard T. Clark, CEO of Merck & Co; Scott Foraker, VP of Licensing for Amgen; Joseph McCracken, Vice President, Business & Commercial Development, Genentech; and Dr.Thomas A. Picone, Vice President, Strategic Alliances, Schering Plough.
The Innovation Accelator @ UCSF will host the Global Life Science Innovation Competition on April 21, 2006. Up to 25 teams will compete for cash awards, and dine with judges and sponsors, including venture capitalists actively engaged in financing early stage life science companies.
The event Non-VC Funding of Biotech Startups: Individual Investors, Private Funds, and Investing Groups will be held on April 5, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Cooley Godward, 3175 Hanover Street, Palo Alto, CA 94304-1130. The event will feature panelists who will discuss their experiences with investing in life sciences companies:their investment philosophy; the value they provide beyond funding – advice, guidance, management, network, future funding; what is expected from companies when they approach these investors; what is required in order to be considered for an investment; their evaluation and due diligence process; their typical investments; how they interact (and sometimes co-invest) with VCs; what are their typical/common structures of investments and key terms; their involvement in bridge and advanced financings; and the most common mistakes companies make when approaching these investors. The moderator is Rivka Sherman-Gold, Ph.D., MBA, Yodan Ventures. The panelists are Wally S. Buch, M.D., Band of Angels; Andrew Farquharson, MBA, The Angels’ Forum/Halo Funds; Lowell E. The event will recognize the women who are leading venture-funded companies and the venture capital firms that are funding them.
The event From the Laboratory Leadership will begin on March 30, 2006 and will run on April 20, 2006, May 5, 2006, and May 19, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be held at BIOCOM, 4510 Executive Plaza Seven San Diego, CA 92121. The Leadership Edge has partnered with BIOCOM to deliver a unique management and leadership development program designed to help managers in a Life Sciences company to successfully deliver on the organization’s goals.
The BIOCOM March Breakfast Meeting will be held on March 29, 2006 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Mariott, La Jolla.
Module Three of the Third Annual Global Bioexecutive Program, Global Product Marketing & Management, will be held on March 28-31, 2006 at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. The module will address such issues as branding and launch, pricing and reimbursement, and new trends and technologies.
