The conference The Stem Cell Meeting on the Mesa will take place on October 20, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, CA. Presenters will share exciting stem cell research initiatives, cutting-edge research, and discuss the scientific, ethical and business challenges that lie ahead. This marks one of the first events put on by the San Diego Institute for Regenerative Medicine. This is an invitation-only event as space is extremely limited.

Biotech Golf Network
The event Biotech Golf Network will take place on October 20, 2006 at Maderas Golf Club. The Corporate Challenge is the Biotech Golf Network’s annual one-day, team tournament. Teams of four compete for the Biotech Golf Network Cup. Trophies awarded to the biotech company and vendor company with the lowest score. Prizes are awarded for specific hole contests, such as hole-in-one and longest drive. The tournament includes lunch, dinner, an awards banquet, and a prize give away.
Bay Bio’s Meet Your Candidate: Fiona Ma
BayBio’s Meet Your Candidate will be held on October 16th from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at FivePrime Therapeutics, 1650 Owens Street Suite 200, in San Francisco, CA. This program will provide an opportunity to meet with a Bay Area freshman candidate for the California State Assembly, Fiona Ma, and to discuss important policy issues that will have a tremendous impact on life sciences companies as they work to navigate a difficult regulatory environment, secure capital, and struggle to find qualified employees for a rapidly growing workforce. The event Fifth Annual BioE2E Alternative Funding Fair will take place on October 7, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Byers Auditorium, Genentech Hall, UC San Francisco Mission Bay Campus. The event is cosponsored by BioE2E, QB3, UCSF Office of Technology Management, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati.

CIO Institute
The CIO Institute will take place from Oct. 18-20, 2006 at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business in Berkeley, CA. The curriculum focuses on strategy creation and leadership development with Fortune 100 CIOs and UC Berkeley’s world-renowned faculty. Participants will gain access to the expertise and tools required to lead effectively at the enterprise level. The speakers for this event include Todd Pierce, VP of Corporate IT Genentech; Cheryl Smith, CIO Institute Co-Chair, Former EVP & CIO, McKesson Corporation; and Cliff Dodd, SVP, CIO and CAO, Kaiser Permanente.
